This will be my first attempt talking about the NFL! I saw the recent news about Baker Mayfield being sent off to the Carolina Panthers from his former team in Cleveland. Honestly, it seems like it's been a never ending headache for fans of the Browns and things have gotten worse since DeShaun Watson has come to town. I will not comment on the Watson situation as I don't know enough about the situation to be able to comment on it. From an outsider's perspective it seems like 90% of the time when the Browns are in the news it's nothing good. However, Baker Mayfield had done a wonderful job of bringing some stability to the team and giving them a chance to build around him.
Again from an outsider's perspective with additions at Wide Receiver from Odell Beckham Jr, to Jarvis Landry to Amari Cooper you would've thought Baker had some tools he could use to his advantage. Well Odell flopped in Cleveland and Jarvis hasn't mounted to being a superstar as he needs help, but based on last year's performance he is far none there best wide out. The highlight for the Browns was running back Nick Chubb returning to form from his 2019 performance and making his third consecutive Pro Bowl. It is obvious to me that the running should be where Cleveland is investing.
Think about this: after the deal for Baker Mayfield the Carolina Panthers now have insane depth at the Quarterback position with Sam Darnold, PJ Walker, rookie Matt Corral, and undrafted rookie Davis Cheek in the position. The price tag for Baker was a fifth round conditional pick in 2024 which is a very low price tag for a team that might not have a QB next season. Coming from someone who has been watching pro-wrestling for twenty four years it seems more like the Browns just enjoy having the sports world talking as opposed to fielding the best team possible. It was Baker who led the team to their first winning season, it was Baker who got them back to the playoffs, and it was Baker alongside Chubb and Landry who was leading the Browns away from being a joke.
The Panthers have no intention of dealing away Sam Darnold even with the acquisition of Mayfield as they are thinking about the future for the team at the position. Right now the future for Carolina is recently drafted QB Matt Corral who was notified of the deal and told that the future plans don't change. I wonder if Baker was given the same call when his former team acquired Watson. Carolina wants Corral to come along slowly and learn from a proven star a similar luxury that Aaron Rodgers and Pat Mahomes were given. I praise the Panther desire to not only allow there new draft pick to learn from two youngsters, but also to not rush and take the smart route to a positive goal.
Considering Mayfield and Darnold are under expiring contracts it will give the Panthers the open opportunity to choose the next direction at the end of the season. In my opinion, both Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold should enter this season hungry to prove themselves, especially Mayfield. If I was Baker Mayfield I would be preparing for the season with the insane hunger to make the Browns regret dealing me away and choosing Deshaun Watson instead.

The best way to explain this situation is this quote from msn.com:
"From Mayfield’s perspective, he isn’t coming to Carolina to lose a quarterback competition or serve as a mentor. He’s here to revamp his career, remake his league-wide image and eventually land a long-term contract with the Panthers or elsewhere. Mayfield-to-Carolina happened because it’s the best short-term move for all three parties, with the potential to be a multi-year solution for all."
